Trauma

When an individual can’t cope with an event or situation, that person may feel emotionally, cognitively, or physically overwhelmed. These feelings can create a psychological trauma, and it is up to each individual to determine whether a particular event is traumatic. If you’re prepared for therapy to manage and overcome these feelings, the Cambridge Psychology Centre is here for you.

Trauma-Focused Therapy

The circumstances of a traumatic event commonly include abuse of power, betrayal of trust, entrapment, helplessness, pain, confusion, and/or loss. Whatever the circumstances, Cambridge Psychology Centre has specialized trauma therapy designed for corporate professionals, first responders, front line workers, and government agencies. Our trauma treatment includes completing a proper history and a conversation to learn the current complaints. Most treatment will initially focus on affect identification and regulation, incorporating techniques like somatic therapy (the relationship between the mind and the body) and, if indicated, exposure work. In addition to individual counselling, our clinic is where people can connect with others while engaged in group activities such as yoga and other creative physical activities.
